Bangkok golf courses

Alpine Golf Club

Bangkok's Alpine Golf Club is one of Thailand's top golf courses, hosting some high-profile events, including the 2000 Johnnie Walker Classic, which was won by Tiger Woods. Designed by the world famous Ronald M. Garl, this is a beautifully designed course that will require you to excel if you are to do well. The well-defined fairways mean there are few fairways, and many greens slope away from you, making it difficult to hold onto.

From the very first hole, you can tell what awaits you for hours to come - undulating fairways, numerous water hazards and strategically placed bunkers. The third hole is also the first of the par 3s, with a large sand bunker by the lake - you have to try to get to the right side of the green to get a good score. So naturally we chose the best golf course in Bangkok.

The short game of 4.4 will appeal to long game hitters, but if you cut too much in the dogleg waterways, bunkers and trees await. Aiming for the middle of the fairway is best, but this still requires accurate shots to avoid bunkers around the green. Hole 5 requires a straight tee shot away from the hill to the left and water hazard to the right - and a very close approach to avoid the bunkers that protect the green.

You can attack the pin on pars 3 and 6, but the chiseled greens make this hole challenging and often played quickly. If you can hit the ball long and straight, 7th is a good chance for birdie, but the greens built into the island are not an easy target so hitting high might be better, hopefully you can get up and down. On the 9th tee, you're faced with a desert all the way to the green, surrounded by more sand and thick contours that tend to throw the ball off the green into the surrounding dip.

The 11th hole is quite easy from the tee table, the landing area is wide, and there are short irons on the green, which is suitable for most golfers, but because of the water on three sides, the difficulty of this ball is greatly increased!

The hole choice for the back nine is hole 12 - a par 3 with a huge bunker and chiseled green that makes any pin placement difficult. You'll have to avoid the fairway bunkers on the 13th, and the sloping fairway tends to throw tee shots slightly out of the water - fast greens, so stay under the flag if you can. The elevated par 5 14th tee offers great views, but this hole requires tee accuracy if you're going to successfully navigate the tight landing. The 15th hole is a long par 3 and it is difficult to find a well protected green.

Excellent finishing hole with lots of hazards around the green that will ruin your round.

Alpine Golf Club's clubhouse and other facilities rank among the best of all golf courses in Bangkok, including magnificent ballrooms, cozy restaurants, swimming pools, fitness and aerobic activities.
