Bangkok golf courses

Bangkok Golf Club

Bangkok Golf Club is one of the closest courses to the city, usually around 30 minutes. Unfortunately it was severely damaged in the 2011 floods which resulted in the loss of many adult trees and the need to relocate all greens. Although a fairly short course, there are many challenges that will delight most golfers. The course is under new management so the service and maintenance has been vastly improved.

It's not a very long golf course, only 6,800 yards from the back tees, but that doesn't mean the course is a walk in the park, with plenty of obstacles just waiting to stumble if you're not paying attention you.

This may seem obvious, but it's especially true here, where you have to avoid bunkers and numerous water hazards if you want to play well, especially on the very cleverly designed par 3 holes. Our particular favorite is course 11, with its island green not only surrounded by water, but also by a giant bunker. The 9th hole is a zig-zag dogleg par-five hole, which was once selected as one of the top 500 holes in the world by an authoritative golf magazine.

The front nine is fairly straightforward and many holes are very similar as they move through the course. The back nine is more interesting, with some great holes with great views, lots of water hazards and doglegs. The 13th hole is considered the most difficult hole on the course as it goes around a water hazard and requires careful placement. The 15th hole is a par 4 for riding, but if you want to hit the green you'll have to deal with out of bounds and you can only try it on weekdays when the course is less crowded. The 16th hole is another one to remember, as a lone palm tree stands just in front of the green, blocking your way to the flag. The 17th hole used to have two greens, one of which was lined by a waterfall, but was rendered unusable due to flooding and is unlikely to be used again. The greens are not too hard, but very faithful and fast for a Thai green.

The clubhouse at the Bangkok Golf Club includes all standard facilities, including traditional Thai massages and restaurants serving Japanese and Western cuisine, and the course offers basic accommodation if you want to get away from the city. The course is also lit, perfect for those teeing off late in the day or playing after get off work.
