Bangsai Country Club

Ayutthaya The Bangsai Country Club is located in the former capital region of Thailand and opened in 1996.

Originally an 18-hole complex, the club has since added 9 holes to create a wonderful 27-hole complex that is both enjoyable and affordable. It's this affordability that makes the course one of the most popular in the area, though it's still considered a hidden gem in Bangkok's golf scene.

The facilities are superb and the beautiful clubhouse offers good food, cold drinks and a warm and welcoming atmosphere. When you arrive at the premier clubhouse, it might be hard to believe that you haven't stepped through the doors of an upscale country club.

Perfectly suited to the region, the course has been cleverly designed to take full advantage of the stunning views, natural topography and rural setting. Thai designer Pirapon Namatra should be highly commended for his attention to detail and complexity in designing rice fields.

Each hole is uniquely designed with undulating fairways perfectly framed by strategically placed bunkers and side water hazards that come into play on no fewer than 11 holes.

Unlike many golf courses in the area, Bangsai uses the elevation changes in the landscape to great effect and is a joy to play, especially on weekdays when, with the lack of golfers, you might think you're at a private members' club . Weekends, however, are a different story as locals flock to play on this wonderful little golf course.

Hole 7 is a picturesque hole that would intimidate many weekend golfers. Finding this split fairway takes a long time across the water. The rough and bunkers are in the middle, with more bunkers on the sides of the fairway. From here, it's relatively easy to hit the greens, and although the greens are fast and undulating, it's a superb hole that offers plenty of chances for good scores and plenty of bad ones.

A delightful hole is the par 4 11th, a real risk and reward hole for the long distance golfer. The hole opens with a somewhat unusual feature, a tee that runs about 150 yards from back to front. From this long tee, you'll see a gentle dogleg that winds to the left around a large water hazard. Two bunkers protect the "shorter" path to the fairway, while trees and more bunkers protect the overly cautious right-hand side. Longer hitters will be tempted to take as many balls off corners as possible to create birdie chances.

The 14th hole is considered by many to be the signature hole, with 10 different tees, this hole is all different, but the shot through the water to the well sheltered green will delight even the most experienced golfer Hands can also be challenged.

On the new 9th hole, the par-5 7th is one of the most memorable and challenging holes in the new circuit. 549 yards from the white tee, golfers must avoid the small, almost pot bunker in the middle of the fairway. The second had to be placed in the perfect spot to see the green just below the fairway and protected by a water hazard to the left. A beautifully designed hole that deserves a lot of credit.
