Blue Canyon Country Club

Phuket's only championship course and some Tiger Woods legends
The Canyon Course at the Blue Canyon Country Club has hosted the Johnnie Walker Classic three times, won here by Mr Tiger Woods in 1998, giving you the chance to consistently stand out on this course as one of the most watched courses in Thailand one. The course winds around an abandoned tin mine, taking advantage of the steep cliffs of the canyon itself. It's a golfer's delight and a must-see on any golf holiday in Thailand.

After a relatively innocuous front nine through palm trees (except for the narrow fairways and lightning-fast greens), the course gets tougher with a spectacular series of holes from 11th to 15th. After a few tries and only one catch, we can prove to you that on the 600 yd par 5 11th hole a bogey should be content, only the longest tee shot across the fairway and only the most accurate shot Avoid water and swamps to protect the greens.

After a towering 12th, approached from above the green with a spectacular water surface, we reach the famous 13th hole, where a plaque on the tee tells us that Tiger once drove the green (without mentioning that he putt three Putt!). This is where the extra ball comes in handy, as you'll definitely want to try to match his feat. Even more conservative shots have to span huge gaps to get a decent second. If a brave person explores the depths of the canyon, they will find tens of thousands of balls hit by the optimistic, the unlucky or the incompetent. If you can hit par here, you can say you're (sort of) as good as Mr. Woods.

The two par 3s on the back nine were particularly memorable. On 14th your tee needs to land high on an island green, right next to the large clubhouse, a tricky proposition as the distance is hard to judge and you may have others to help you see theirs After a round of drinks. The 17th hole, once described by Gary Player as "the best par 3 hole I've ever seen", is quite daunting, especially from the black tip where you have to carry the water for over 200 yards to a spot that often moves there. The flagpole behind the block is a green bunker. You can play it more safely by hitting the left side of the green, but because of the unusual shape of the green, you may not be able to see the flagstick.

The round ends with a long par 4 that's lined with water before hitting a dangerously elevated green right in front of the clubhouse, adding some pressure to your attempts to avoid a three-putt finish. Another plaque marks some 300m from the black tee where Tiger once drove, another chance to go head-to-head with the best before finishing your round with a well-deserved drink.

The clubhouse has a restaurant with a terrace overlooking the pitch, a well-stocked pro shop with racquet and shoe rentals, and even on-site accommodation with a spa (although we wouldn't recommend staying there as there isn't much Doable). Do it there). in areas after dark). While the locker room has seen better days, there's no reason not to take part in a Thailand golf vacation (or two!) at the Blue Canyon Country Club's Canyon Course.
