Khao Yai golf courses

Bonanza Golf Country Club

Bonanza Golf and Country Club is about a 3 hour drive from central Bangkok, north of Khao Yai National Park, and we can only assume the owners are fans of 70's TV shows. One of the great advantages of golfing in Khao Yai is that it's much less crowded than Bangkok and much cooler, and in winter it can actually get quite cold in the early mornings. The course is a classic parkland course winding through the surrounding countryside.

The tee hole is a dogleg hole that curves slightly to the right, with a fairway bunker blocking the tiger line and a small green protected by a bunker to the left. This is followed by a medium length par 3 with a wide open green but with two bunkers behind it for anyone to overshoot. Hole 3 is a very boring par 4 with no bunkers to protect it. On par 5 and 4 things get more interesting. It's a left dogleg hole with a creek running down the left side before cutting into the fairway - there's a large fairway bunker to the left of the fairway, and two more bunkers waiting to thwart big shots who want to take shortcuts. If you can play a second tee close to the creek, it's easy to hit the green, but watch out for the water on your back. Hole 5 is another hole without a bunker, but with drips on the tee and three ponds to the right, you'll still be in trouble.
Hole 6 is a short par 4 with three fairway bunkers and two others protecting the green - don't over tee off or you'll end up in the water. The 78th hole is another hole with no bunkers, but the fairways are divided by trees and the greens are almost surrounded by water, which will still cost you a few shots. The 8th hole is a fun par 3 with water on the right but you can stay on the left as there are no bunkers in your path. The 9th hole is a dogleg right par 5 but not too difficult if you can find the fairway from the tee.

The 10th is a very tricky dogleg par 4 with a creek running down the left as the hole turns and a fairway bunker, so finding the fairway on the tee is key to this hole. The 11th hole is a banana-shaped par 5 with an E stream to the left and cuts into the fairway in front of the green. The 12th hole is a short par 3, but with water from tee to green and three bunkers to the right of the green, this hole is sure to get a little nervous. The 13th hole has a large water hazard to the left of the tee and then flows into a stream that bisects the fairway - playing the left fairway gives you a better angle to the green, but it's The waters are flooded and fraught with danger.
The 14th has water on the left and a well positioned fairway bunker on the right. The green is long and narrow and the water is very close to the left. At 15ht they seem to make up for the lack of bunkers on the other holes with 5 fairway bunkers and 4 around the greens - while also dealing with the large water hazard off the tees. The 16th hole is a long par 3 with a large bunker in front of the green. The 17th hole is a short par 4 hole with an open fairway. The biggest challenge is the green surrounded by four bunkers and a water hazard on the right. Easy dogleg par 4 that ends with three fairway bunkers that most decent players will carry into the fairway, then the greens are very open.
