Chiang Mai golf courses

Gassan Legacy Golf Club

Formerly known as Gassan Lake City Golf Club, this Chiang Mai golf course closed in 2013 and has been completely refurbished by the renowned Schmidt-Curley golf course design team. Relaunched and renamed Gassan Legislative Golf Club in 2014, the course is now one of the top golf courses in Chiang Mai.

Not only was this a cosmetic makeover, the entire course was resurfaced with new drainage and, as with many courses designed by the team, a number of greenside hazards were added to preserve the now pristine greens. There's also a lot of water around the pitch, and the pitch isn't that long by today's standards, so reward accuracy over brute force.

They left many of the mature trees that existed before and gently reshaped the fairways and set up the course so that better golfers could take risks and be rewarded appropriately, while lesser golfers took the easy way out. , either discard the card or use the rescue zone.

Water plays a role on every hole, and on most holes, you're either bringing water up the fairway or letting it get into the fairway near the tee, making every tee very intimidating. Luckily, there is no water for most of the approach shots, but you run into another danger, a myriad of strategically placed bunkers waiting to catch unpredictable shots.

Unusually, these golf courses have five par 3 holes ranging in distance from 90 to 180 yards from the white tees, and you can hit them with most of the clubs in your bag. The first of these is the 2nd which involves running water onto a narrow green, the 7th is a bit shorter but the most difficult hole on the course as the goal is an island green with no room for error! The designers compensated for this by throwing the same number of par 5s at the 8th hole, a right-angled dogleg hole perhaps the most difficult of the front nine, with water carried from the tee to the fairway, bunkers lined with tigers and water along the Protect the right. As you approach the green all the way to the left, the hole turns the other way. The 17th hole is a large S-shaped hole with water on the tee, a number of bunkers await, and then a second bunker floods in before trying to find the narrow putting surface. For added fun, big hitters can hit several short par 4 holes.

Gassan Legacy is now one of the best golf courses in Chinag Mai, and despite numerous water hazards and bunkers, it still offers opportunities for golfers if the tee shot is right.

The slightly quirky clubhouse hasn't been updated yet, but offers enough amenities that shouldn't spoil your day at Gassan Heritage. We hope you will agree that this Chiang Mai golf course has become one of the best around.
