River Kwai golf courses

Grand Prix Golf Club

The Grand Prix Golf Club, sounds like something from the world of Formula 1 and although things are little more relaxed than the F1 circuit, the course does have links to the automotive world.  Situated in the Kanchanaburi region of Thailand, which is the largest of western provinces in the country, the course is named after the company which owns it, Grand Prix International.  Their magazine is about motor vehicles but Dr. Prasad Jin Lmena moved in to cable television, before investing in the world of golf and the Grand Prix Golf Club has certainly proved to be a wise decision.

The Grand Prix Golf Club is only 30 minutes from Kanchanaburi and 2 hours from Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The court looks very wide because it is in a very open space. The mountains of Burma are visible in the distance, forming a beautiful backdrop for the golf course. There is a water feature on the course, but it is not artificial like many other courses in the area. It's actually a river that runs through the Grand Prix track and divides it in several places.

A feature of this course is the split fairways found on many of the holes. These offer a variety of approaches to the green, some more challenging than others. Just landing the ball on the green isn't enough to score when you're within range of the green. The greens are layered and resting on them may be penalized. Therefore, careful club selection and accurate golf ball placement are critical.

Perhaps the best hole choice at the Grand Prix Golf Club is the par 5, which measures 557 yards. The greens are raised and surrounded by water, making it a difficult proposition, but at the same time, the fairways follow the natural landscape, making the fifth hole both challenging and enjoyable.

The facilities at the Grand Prix Golf Club are also worth mentioning. The clubhouse is modern with a nice balcony and beautifully designed. There is a hotel with 50 rooms and a gourmet restaurant on site, making your stay at the Grand Prix Golf Club a real pleasure.

Arguably one of the best golf courses in Kanchanaburi (if not all of Thailand), the Grand Prix Golf Club is well worth a visit for golfers of all skill levels.
