Laguna Golf Phuket

A challenging resort course that has hosted Asian Tour events
Laguna Golf Phuket is a delightful resort that has hosted Asian Tour events

Benefiting from the refreshing breezes of the Andaman Sea and the region's famous tropical beauty, Laguna Phuket Golf Club underwent a major renovation in 2015 and has become one of the top golf courses in Phuket. The complex shape of the once-flat greens is now quite a challenge, with cleverly placed bunkers now lining the fairways with numerous bumps and dips, emphasizing careful and thoughtful course management and careful club choice.

The course starts out as a medium length par 4 with water on the tee and approach, and then a nice par 3 with water all the way to the right but a generous saving area to the left. The short dogleg par 4 3rd is a classic risk/reward hole, and the more water hazards you dare to take away from the tee, the easier it is to get closer to the 4th green. After another scenic par 3 that requires watering, the fifth hole offers a direct approach to the green at the risk of being blocked by a large tree, or a more conservative, wider approach. Either way, approaching the green with bunkers in front and water to the right is intimidating.

If your scorecard is not affected by 4-6 strokes. Offers a short game of 5-7 with its 5 well-placed bunkers. If you can avoid the water on the sides, this is a good scoring opportunity. The last of the front nine is a beautiful par 3 with two tiers of greens, and a long par 5 that takes you over water, trees, bunkers and uneven terrain.

The back nine didn't let up, starting with a par 4 that needed a way to keep trees from stabbing into the undulating fairways and water lurking behind the greens. If you can carry the fairway bunkers, a direct approach to the green on the par 5 11 offers a birdie opportunity, but a more conservative approach presents its own problems, requiring a perfect second shot or a clever back-off To avoid trees will likely block your path to the green. After the short par 3 12th and a deep bunker on the green, you have to navigate a bunkerless but tough par 4 with water to the left and a tricky two-tiered green, Unless you're in a match, you're incurring a three-putt.

After the long par 14 par 5 hole is one of the course's best par 4 holes, the par 15. Precision hitting is required to reach the elevated fairway, and your approach must avoid the two large bunkers that guard the front of the green. After the long downhill par 3 on the 16th and the dogleg par 4 on the 17th, both featuring water hazards and sharply defined greens, the round ended with the longest 4 on the course. The par hole ends. Tiger lines can significantly shorten the left dogleg, but since trees and OBs usually penalize this approach, it's best to aim for the middle of the fairway and take the long approach, you just need to carry a bunker green in front of the fairway.

The facilities and services at Laguna Phuket Golf Club are second to none. Driving range, putting green and bunker, well-stocked pro shop, friendly and experienced staff, and well-appointed locker rooms with luxurious towels ensure a five-star experience. With 4 hours of on-site spa and massage treatments, the "golf widow" has no reason to complain about the time of golf, and after the game, you can also enjoy the gourmet first-class restaurant in the bistro.

Conveniently located for those staying at one of the many luxury hotels in the larger Laguna complex, this course offers a fun golf challenge and is one of our top recommendations for a golf holiday in Thailand.
