Bangkok golf courses

Lakewood Links

Lakewood Links is the most recent golf course to open in Bangkok and we have not had a chance to play it yet - the course is still maturing and will take some time to be up to the standards of its sister course.  The almost total lack of trees leaves the course very exposed to the prevailing winds.  A very unusual links-style layout with two unique signature par 3s - one in the shape of a starfish and another in the shape of a crab.  The course is very flat an featureless with virtually no trees and it winds its way around the very large lake which dominates the layout.

A difficult tee hole where if you don't hit your first shot straight you end up either in the water or in a bunker. A similar problem on the second par 4 with two large fairway bunkers, followed by a huge bunker and lake protecting the green. The third par 5 hole is a classic risk and reward hole where better golfers can access the water hazard and go straight to the green. The fourth is the longest of the par 3s at over 230 yards from the back tee. If you can get past the numerous obstacles guarding the fairways, you'll be rewarded with fairly easy access to the greens. Hole 6 is a real birdie chance if you get the right spot off the tee, hole 7 is where you can really spread your shoulders as the fairway is wide open and then it moves to a green with islands and Crab-shaped bunkers wait to devour your balls. The front nine is tough, with the lake flowing down the right side from the tee to the green.

There isn't much rest on the back nine, especially the 12th, which is the longest of the par 5s at over 600 yards, and the entire hole is questionable, and you'd better get to the green unscathed. Next up is the shortest par 4, a slight dogleg to the left, with a large but well guarded green and two very large fairway bunkers. A very dangerous par 4 par 14 with a huge fairway bunker and water on the right, then four huge bunkers protecting the rolling putting surface. Hole 15 also has problems here and there, with a big lake on the left, a small lake on the right and a bunker in the middle - you have to be very precise here. A relatively easy finish, the 17th is an easy par 4 if you can avoid the problems posed by the greens, the 18th is another short par 4 with water for those brave enough Greens available.

Lakewood Links is one of the few night golf courses in Bangok that is open every day. The Lake House in Lakewood Links is a small clubhouse and restaurant. There is also a pro shop specializing in golf supplies.
