Loch Palm Golf Club

A long-time favorite in Phuket, the dry ball should do well
Nestled in a basin surrounded by mountains and jungles, Loch Palm Golf Club has been a favorite place for golf trips in Phuket since its establishment in 1993. Easier than some of its more famous competitors - but still challenging enough to test the abilities of all golfers, thanks largely to the lake itself - it's a really fun course.

Getting your ball out of the water should be your main goal, and if you can do it the first time, you're ahead. The front nine is characterized by frequent play from the lake and its tributaries, often cutting into the fairways and penalizing even the straightest tee shots. Even offline, you can find yourself among the countless palm trees that give the square its name, but they're never so crowded that you can't relax. The 4th hole is a long par 3 from the water to the peninsula green and is the first choice for the first 9 holes.

The most memorable hole is coming to an end. Hole 14 is a short par 3 tee off to the island green; choosing the right club is difficult and takes some time to determine if you've made the right choice as your ball seems to hang forever Aerial (hopefully) to find safe greens. The 16th is another par 3 where anything right will be swallowed by water, and the sloping two-tiered green means not all balls that land on the green stay there.

While the overall condition of the course is very good, especially considering the amount of traffic, one minor gripe is the inconsistency of the greens. Some of them have been recreated and play faster, meaning they're easy to grab. Luckily, the caddies are excellent, so we recommend you heed their advice!

Loch Palm can get busy on weekends so it is recommended to visit during the week. The clubhouse has been recently renovated and the locker rooms, pro shop and restaurant are all fantastic. There is also a unique driving range where you can hit balls on the lake.

A small resort is fine for those who want to stay overnight and play early in the morning, but if you include Palm Lake Golf Club on your Phuket golf holiday, you're better off staying in one of the beachfront locations where there's still plenty to do.
