Chiang Mai golf courses

Mae Jo Golf Club

Mae Jo Golf Club in Chiang Mai is an unusual layout, meandering through mature fruit trees and offering superb views from some elevated tees. A couple of banana shaped holes with blind tees, but great for all levels of golfers.

This is a very popular course as it is close to the center of Chiang Mai, the fairways are lined with many trees, if you want to play well you have to hit the ball straight, but if you land on a tree you might find a ripe mango . have fun.

Because you're standing on some tees, you can't see the landing zone, but the various aiming points and range markings will help you decide how much risk you can take.

Bermuda grass on the fairway often provides an attractive location and it always helps when you need a fairway wood to reach the green, which is the case on hole No. 15, a long par 4 that can be accessed from Hitting the Perfect A Tee Over the Overhead If you want your approach to have a chance of reaching the green, the tee needs to box out to the dogleg corner. Even overlooking the green, a pot bunker guards the two-tiered green, and you'll need to watch your positioning if you want to avoid bogey or worse.

The 14th hole is another excellent hole, with great views of the surrounding countryside as you try to get over the huge garbage bunker between you and the green.

The open-air clubhouse is simple and functional without being extravagant, and there's an excellent restaurant overlooking the pitch.

While the course isn't too intimidating for high handicappers, there's plenty to keep the more experienced golfers busy, with long doglegs and water hazards to be aware of. The most difficult hole is the 15th, a long par 4 where your tee shot from the overhead box has to be long enough to reach the dogleg corner to have a chance of reaching the green in regular form. The downhill must avoid the pot bunkers menacingly placed in front of the wide, steeply sloping two-tiered green, requiring good reading skills to avoid the dreaded three-putt. With that in mind, it might be a good idea to take full advantage of the practice facilities, which include practice bunkers in addition to the usual putting and chipping greens.

The Lanna-style clubhouse is simple and functional rather than luxurious, with an excellent restaurant overlooking the course and staffed by friendly and attentive staff. When you add all of this to a well-designed course that benefits from the meticulous care of the maintainers, it's easy to understand the popularity of Mae Jo Golf Club.
