Phuket golf courses

Mission Hills Phuket Golf Resort

Mission Hills Golf Club is the most scenic course in Phuket, with many holes running along the sea. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, it can be played for a long time according to the prevailing wind direction. The greens are a bit slow, but the course is generally in good shape.

Playing on a course as close to the ocean as Mission Hills Golf Club is awesome when you live on an island, and Jack Nicklaus makes the most of the natural setting by incorporating plenty of water hazards and seemingly acres of sand to own.

The most interesting hole of the first 9 holes is the par 5 2nd hole which consists of a tricky tee through a sandy wasteland, then the daunting island green, and the 4th hole, the first ocean hole , has an excellent view of the sea offering islands. This medium length par 3 hole can be very difficult depending on the direction of the wind and finding the putting face is not easy. The fifth hole is sandy from tee to green, requiring careful tee shots to avoid bunkers. Undulating fairways add to the problem when lining up your approach. The 7th hole is a long par 3 with current at the right latitude, but that doesn't really work unless you choose to play off the black tee. The 8th hole is a short par 4 dogleg and positioning off the tee is critical for making mistakes. If your line is correct, you can easily approach the green, but if you go too far to the right, you won't be able to get a good view of the green among the trees.

The tee hole on the back nine at Mission Hills Golf Club requires a good tee shot to hit the sweet spot on the well-protected greens. The 11th hole is a short par 3 and unless it is windy it shouldn't cause too many problems. The 12th hole is for the long hitters, a rather ambitious 481 yard par 4 requiring a 250 yard shot from the black tee and a well-planned long shot onto the well protected green . Bogey is a realistic expectation for most of us, but at least you can enjoy the ocean while enjoying it. The 13th hole is a very long par 5 facing the ocean and if you want to hit the tough greens often you will have to find your way around the expansive sandy beach. The 14th is a short par 4, but the green is tricky and any overshoot will be in big trouble behind the green. The next three holes offer real scoring opportunities - the 15th is the shortest par 5 on the course and long hitters can reach it within two holes, the 16th is a short par 3 but the There are bunkers on both sides of the ridge and access protection outside of .0. The 17th hole is a short par 4 and your second green puts you in good position as long as you avoid the deep valley to the left. Perfect finishing hole with water all the way to the right and requires a very careful tee shot to avoid bunkers and be in the best position to attack the pin.

Maintenance of the course and especially the greens are an issue from time-to-time but we have seen a great improvement lately and we will advise you if there are any change to the situation.

The facilities on offer are superb and the hotel is in excellent condition with a first rate spa. The food is expensive but justifiably so, producing excellent Thai cuisine. The drinks are also expensive, but for a holiday visit you may be happy to pay the prices just this once.
