Chiang Rai is an unlikely place to encounter one of the best golf courses in Thailand. In pristine and immaculate condition, Santiburi Chiang Rai Country Club is a must see course. Great design gives better golfers a chance to excel while providing a safer option for higher handicap players.



Built in 1993, Santiburi Chiang Rai Country Club was once the city's only golf course and is still considered one of Asia's preeminent designs and remains a favorite of local players. Not far from central Chiang Mai, this course has a magical feel to it as its lush fairways meander through valleys and hills, surrounded by majestic mature trees and lakes.

Although originally set up as a championship course, the correct selection of the four tees on offer ensures that most amateur golfers will not be overwhelmed, and there will always be jump areas and easier access to lightning-fast greens route.

No matter which way you choose to get to the greens, there's no getting around the numerous and grassy bunkers and the many water hazards. You'll have to contend with hanging lies, as most fairways undulate in one direction or the other, making obstacle avoidance much more difficult. The best hole is probably Target, a long par 5 where you have to dodge currents off the tee and over another lake and some tricky fairway bunkers at second.

The clubhouse is also a great place to have a beer, a sandwich or more while discussing your round.
