Bangkok golf courses

Thai Country Club

Thailand Country Club in bangkok is one of Thailand's premier golf courses and has hosted several high-profile events, including the 1997 Asian Honda Classic, which was won by Tiger Woods. Not the most exciting golf course in Bangkok, but certainly has the best service, including very efficient clubhouse service, excellent food and some well-trained caddies in Thailand. It's a private members' club, so access is limited - especially on weekends, but golf savers have exclusive access to tee times for a reduced price. So naturally we chose the best golf course in Bangkok.

The par 4 at Thailand Country Club starts very gently, and if you can avoid the fairway bunkers that most of us probably won't be able to reach, you'll be ready for your approach. A large expanse of water awaits you on the second tee and a huge fairway bunker - don't try to get to the green and play it safely to the left of the bunker. Hole 3 is the first of the par 3s and has a narrow green with a large bunker on one side and a void on the other. The 4th hole is the shortest of the par 5s, but also one of the most dangerous, with many tempted to go straight across the water to the green - a 3 is much better and hopefully you can putt. Hole 5 is a straight par 4, as long as you can avoid the sand, then a very long par 3, usually upwind, where you need to choose the right line to the left of the green. The 7th is a short par 5 that long hitters can play in two, but they must avoid the large bunker left of the green. The 8th hole can be a scoring hole if you can avoid the fairway bunkers and protect the left side of the green (much deeper than it looks). The final hole on the front nine is a little quieter, but you'll often have to play from a sloping position, and the placement of the pin on this cleverly shaped green can be deceiving.

When you start the back nine at Thai Country Club, a plaque reminds you that Tiger Woods drove the green during the 1997 Honda Classic, but for most of us it's a par 2, but in Not far from the green and head straight for it or you could get in the water. What follows is a very nice par 3 with water tumbles and deep bunkers - buy an extra if you're unsure of your club choice as the greens are usually firm. The 12th hole is the longest par 4 on the course, but you'll have to avoid the giant green bunker. Big hitters will try to drive the bunker off the tee, and you'll need to stay on the right side of the green as you approach to avoid the waiting bunker. The 14th hole is a long par 5 and is considered the hardest hole on the course. It takes three very solid shots to get into position, but at least the greens are fairly flat. The 15th hole is an extremely dangerous hole with water on the tee and second shot - sloping fairways and greens add to the problems of this challenging hole. This is followed by the final par 3 hole which progresses off the tee and if you manage your putting surface you will be facing the most undulating greens on the course. If you want to successfully pass par 5, 17, you have to avoid the bunkers on one side and the water on the other. The final hole at Thai Country Club requires a straight tee shot as everything on the right is blocked by trees and you need to avoid the larger bunkers that protect the left side of the green.

Changing rooms would not be out of place in a 5 star hotel, with a hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room, massage rooms, hydro-jet therapy showers, men's and women's grooming rooms. Valet parking is provided by a team of trained porters, and the pro shop is one of the best with a huge selection of golf equipment and souvenirs.

As you'd expect from a class managed by The Peninsula Group, the restaurants are excellent, offering a wide range of Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Western cuisine, backed up by the impeccable service of this renowned group.
